David Bowie London Tour
Follow David Bowie’s London story from Brixton to Ziggy Stardust, from early school days and local memories to Soho studios, legendary stages and the places where his image, sound and mythology took shape.
Recommended route: Start in Brixton, continue to Soho and Mayfair, travel west towards Earls Court and Hammersmith, and finish with the optional Beckenham and Bromley section. Olympic Studios, Decca Studios, Royal Albert Hall and the David Bowie Centre at V&A East Storehouse are included as additional London Bowie locations, not as part of the compact main walking route.
🎸 Brixton – The Early Years
David Bowie’s story begins in Brixton, where he was born in 1947. These locations reflect his earliest environment, from his birthplace and school years to the local landmarks that later became places of memory and tribute.
⚡ Soho & Mayfair – Breakthrough Years
In Soho and Mayfair, Bowie’s career took shape. Studios, clubs and streets such as Heddon Street, Trident Studios, The Marquee Club and Denmark Street became part of the world in which he developed his sound, image and Ziggy Stardust mythology.
🎭 Hammersmith & Earls Court – Bowie Live in London
This part of the tour follows Bowie’s London live legacy, from Earls Court as a major later concert venue to the Hammersmith Odeon, where he famously retired Ziggy Stardust on stage on 3 July 1973.
🌳 Beckenham & Bromley – Formation and Community
Before worldwide fame, Bowie developed his creative identity in Beckenham and Bromley. This section connects his family home, school years, Haddon Hall, the Beckenham Arts Lab period and the 1969 Growth Summer Festival.
🎚️ Recording Studios
Olympic Studios in Barnes and Decca Studios in West Hampstead are included as separate recording-studio locations. They are important Bowie-related London sites, but they are not part of the compact Soho and Mayfair walking route.
🏛️ Additional Bowie Locations
The tour also includes additional London landmarks connected to Bowie’s wider legacy, including the Royal Albert Hall and the David Bowie Centre at V&A East Storehouse in Hackney Wick.
