Toy is a unique project that saw David Bowie revisiting and re-recording some of his earliest, lesser-known songs from the 1964–1971 period. After his triumphant performance at Glastonbury 2000, Bowie took his live band into the studio to capture a "live" and spontaneous sound for these vintage tracks.
Though it leaked online in low quality in 2011, the 2021 official release was the first time the album was heard in its intended high-fidelity mix. It serves as a bridge between the introspective 'hours...' and the more polished Heathen.
