By using goody’s upload, “David Bowie – Leon 4. Downside Up, Inside Out”, I was able to piece together what I think is an improved listening experience for The Leon Suites. I put each suite onto its own disc and separated them into several parts, according to their content.
My Methodology:
I started with Disc 04, “3.Upside – Another Album Assembly”, of goody’s newest release – an already fantastic arrangement of Bowie’s work. Using my own familiarity with the Suites, I then referred to Chris O’Leary’s Tumblr blog: bowiesongs.tumblr.com (O’Leary also runs the “Pushing Ahead of the Dame” blog at bowiesongs.wordpress.com). Chris’s track annotations on the Suites are provided along with this upload.
My Inspiration:
I fell in love with The Leon Suites the first time I came across the tracks. Many users on BowieStation have contributed additional versions, arrangements, and improvements on the Suites. The level of community involvement that went into this kind of appreciation reminded me of the treatment that The Beach Boys’ “SMiLE” got before its official release and inspired me to upload my own interpretation.
